So I decided I would post pictures of the route I flew as mentioned in a previous post

This is the Airport

And this is the route I traveled. The updraft from the ocean put me pretty close to 1500 feet. Oops

What did *you* do last Saturday?

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Last Saturday, Feb 16th at 1pm I went to Cumberland and York Aviation in Biddeford. I talked to Kevin Davison about flying and what it takes to get your certificates and what are things to think about if you plan to make it your career, etc.

The plane he was taking me up in was a Cessna 172 Skyhawk

Then we took out the plane, did a check. It was very chilly, also. Walked all around, checked the ailerons, the elevators, the tail, etc, etc. Made sure the fuel was clear and the right color, made sure everything was hunky dory.

Then we hopped in, did a few checks. moved the plane over to another spot. did more checks. then he brought it up to the runway. and we took off.

about 1,000 feet in the air I heard “put your left had on the yoke and make a shallow left turn. put your toes on the peddles and just have pressure, don’t push, just a pressure. ”

from there on i was the one with my hands on the yoke, driving the plane. he would tell me to make a left toward the coast, follow the coastline, hard left to follow the river. don’t go over the river though, because that would be Portland airspace. keep it around 1,000 feet. pull back a little to get back up, push in a little cause cant go 1500 feet or that is airspace.

It was exciting, nervous, a lot to watch for. this dial that dial, look all around outside the plane. i could barely see over the nose of the plane cause i am short. he told me i would probably be taught in a cessna 150 cause its smaller and i wouldnt have to worry about the weight limit cause im tiny.

I think I might do this. I’ve thought about it a bunch since I went.
